"Make council more transparent"

Past & Present.......John Horrex 1997-2000 and 2000-2004

It was an honour to be elected Mayor for Tiaro Shire in 1997 and 2000.
I sincerely thank the community at large for their support and to the indoor and outdoor staff for their loyalty and contributions to the growth of the
magnificent Tiaro Shire over those seven years as Mayor.
Much was achieved through the full support of fellow councillors.
The shire witnessed the establishment of the following public buildings.
* Curra Country Club extensions
* Tiaro Toilets
* Tiaro Community Hall
* Tiaro Tourism Information Centre
* Gundiah Sports Ground Hall
* Glenwood Hall
* S.E.S. Shed
* Tiaro Recreational Ground Hall
* Bauple and District Museum
* Gunalda Sports Ground Buildings.
All achieved through community groups working together and financing generally through Federal and State Government grants.
In addition to and not forgetting many other works in road reconstruction, bridge improvement programs and the widening and building of the Emery's bridge
over the Mary River.
Many other programs were also introduced in my term including social planning, counter disaster and crime studies.
In summary I am extremely disappointed at the undemocratic and arrogant decision to force an amalgamation on our Tiaro Shire community, with its consequences
and financial and social impacts on our outlying communities.
Unless focus is positioned to support our people affected by this outrageous decision and coupled with the social and environmental impacts by the Traveston Dam.
Regards and best wishes your faithfully
John Horrex
